Wulp Castle
Küsnacht, Switzerland, Switzerland
Wulp Castle is a high medieval ruin nestled in the Küsnachter Tobel gorge near Küsnacht in Switzerland's canton of Zurich, with origins dating to the 11th century possibly linked to Eghart of Küsnacht and early stone fortifications by the Counts of Lenzburg.
Expanded around 1100 with a massive 3.2-meter-thick ring wall and a prominent square tower, it later came under Regensberg control and underwent further building phases, including a unique round tower with a straight batter, before its destruction around 1267-1270 during conflicts involving Zurich and Habsburg forces.
Excavated in the early 20th century, the site reveals Bronze Age settlement traces and now serves as a hiking destination showcasing early Swiss castle architecture amid scenic woodland.
