Baldenstein Castle
Switzerland, Switzerland
Baldenstein Castle is a prominent medieval fortress in the municipality of Sils im Domleschg, Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, originally built around 1246 as the family seat of the Knights of Baldenstein.
It changed hands through noble families including the von Löwenstein, Übercastel, von Stein, Ringg von Baldenstein, Ruinelli, Rosenroll, and Salis-Sils, with expansions like a residential wing and crenelated walls added in the 16th-17th centuries, before passing to the Conrad family who still own it today.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site, the castle overlooking the Albula River endured a major 1877 fire in its residential wing but was rebuilt, preserving its historical architecture amid the scenic Domleschg valley.
