Batticaloa is a coastal city in Sri Lanka's Eastern Province, serving as the administrative capital of Batticaloa District on a narrow lagoon island linked to the mainland by bridges like the iconic Lady Manning Bridge.

Renowned for its massive 56-km-long Batticaloa Lagoon—home to "singing fish" that produce musical sounds during full moons—the city features sandy beaches such as Kallady, Pasikudah, and Kalkudah, a tropical monsoon climate with warm temperatures year-round, and a mix of Tamil, Muslim, and Sinhala cultures amid rice paddies and coconut plantations.
