Fort Pyl
Vetrilaikerny, Sri Lanka
Fort Pyl, also known as Fort Pass Pyl, was a small fort situated in the narrow Elephant Pass area of the Jaffna peninsula in northern Sri Lanka. It was part of a line of forts, including Elephant Pass Fort and Fort Beschutter, built to protect the Jaffna peninsula from attacks originating from the mainland.
The fort was square-shaped and similar in design to the other forts in the area. It was constructed during the Dutch colonial period but has since been destroyed, and no visible remains exist today. Its primary purpose was strategic defense to control access to the peninsula.
The fort represents part of the historical fortifications used to secure this important region of Sri Lanka.
