Dutch Fort
Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka
Dutch Fort in Mullaitivu is a colonial-era fort in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province that was first built by the Dutch in 1715 as a small wooden post and later rebuilt into a stronger quadrangular fort in 1721.
It was meant to control trade and keep order in the area, but it was later taken over by the British and damaged during fighting in 1803. Today, only ruins remain, but the site is still an important reminder of Mullaitivu’s colonial and military history.
