Blonay Castle
Switzerland, Switzerland
Blonay Castle is a medieval fortress in the municipality of Blonay, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, constructed in 1175 by William II of Blonay on the site of an earlier fortified structure from 1095, serving as the ancestral seat of the Blonay noble family, who were vassals of the Counts of Savoy.
The castle features a robust square keep from its founding era, an irregular rectangular layout with two surviving corner towers out of four, a Renaissance-style loggia from 1677 in the forecourt, and a 15th-century chapel adorned with 1577 stained glass windows, with later residential additions and renovations spanning the 18th to 20th centuries.
It briefly left family hands in the 18th century when sold to the Graffenried family in 1752 before being repurchased, and remains a privately owned Swiss heritage site of national significance perched at 644 meters above sea level, overlooking the region near the Pleiades mountains.
