Bois de la Bâtie
Geneva, Switzerland, Switzerland
Bois de la Bâtie is Geneva's largest urban forest park, spanning over 20 hectares along the Arve River near the Jonction where it meets the Rhône, offering panoramic views of the city and lake basin from its hilltop.
Named after the medieval Bastie-Mellié fort built in 1318 and abandoned by the 16th century, the site was donated to the city in 1869 by the Turrettini brothers and developed into a public park in the 1870s with paths, an ornamental pond, and oak woodlands.
Today it features the city's biggest playground, a paddling pool, animal park with endangered species, sports facilities, belvederes, and nature education buildings following 2020-2021 renovations, making it a beloved spot for recreation and biodiversity.
