Brunegg Castle
Brunegg, Switzerland, Switzerland
Brunegg Castle is a well-preserved 13th-century hilltop fortress located in Brunegg, canton of Aargau, Switzerland, built by the Habsburgs as part of their border defenses alongside nearby Wildegg Castle.
First mentioned in 1270 under owner Wernher dem Schenken von Brunegg, it withstood a 1415 Bernese siege lifted by counterattack, later granted as a fief to the Segesser family and subordinated to Lenzburg's governor until 1798.
Owned since 1815 by the Hünerwadel and then von Salis families through marriage, it endured 17th-century storm damage before 1805-1806 restorations of its keep, outbuildings, and roof, now classified as a Class B cultural heritage site hosting events amid Jura Mountain views.
