Burg Thierstein
Büsserach, Switzerland
Burg Thierstein, also known as Neu-Thierstein Castle, is a medieval ruin in the municipality of Büsserach in Switzerland's canton of Solothurn, founded around 1100 by the Counts of Saugern-Pfeffingen as a strategic stronghold in the Jura region.
It passed to the Counts of Thierstein in the late 12th century, underwent rebuilding around 1294-95, and served as a key defensive site until it fell into disrepair after the Thierstein family's decline.
Since 1997, the local municipality has overseen its restoration to preserve the walls, tower remnants, and scenic hilltop location, popular for hikes offering views of the Schwarzbubenland landscape.
