Burgruine Belfort
Albula/Alvra, Switzerland, Switzerland
Burgruine Belfort is a ruined medieval castle on a rocky ridge east of Brienz/Brinzauls in the Albula/Alvra municipality of Graubünden canton, Switzerland.
Built around 1200 as the seat of the powerful Lords of Vaz, it expanded into upper and lower sections with a main tower, residences, and cistern, playing a key role in regional conflicts before passing to Toggenburg, Montfort, and Habsburg owners.
Destroyed by fire during the 1499 Swabian War, the well-preserved remnants underwent restorations in 1935-36 and 2002-07, earning Swiss heritage site status and offering hikers access via metal ladders with valley views.
