Burgruine Campell
Sils im Domleschg, Switzerland, Switzerland
Burgruine Campell, also called Campi Castle ruins, sits on a rocky spur above the Albula River in Sils im Domleschg, Graubünden canton, Switzerland, with origins tracing to a 13th-century four-story bergfried tower built by the Lords of Campell.
Expanded in phases through the 14th-17th centuries with ring walls, a gatehouse, drawbridge, cistern, and a grand palas residential palace, it passed through families like Ehrenfels, Ringg, Salis-Rietberg, and Rosenroll before a fire during the Thirty Years' War Bündner Wirren led to its decline.
Acquired by the Engadiner Campell family in 1932 and donated to a foundation in 1987, the Swiss heritage site was conserved from 1991-1998 and remains accessible to hikers for its panoramic Domleschg valley views.
