Burgruine Gutenfels
Bubendorf, Switzerland, Switzerland
Burgruine Gutenfels is a 13th-century castle ruin located on a rocky spur between Arboldswil and Bubendorf in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland.
Built between 1220 and 1250 by the Lords of Eptingen as a fief of the Counts of Frohburg, it served as the center of a small clearing estate and was first documented in 1303 under Peter von Eptingen.
Destroyed in the 1356 Basel earthquake and abandoned before that time, the site features remnants of a main bailey with 1.2-meter-thick walls, a possible storage area, and no traces of wooden structures, with excavations in 1961-1969 revealing high-status artifacts.
