Çeşme is a coastal town in İzmir Province, Turkey, located on the Aegean Sea. The name "Çeşme" means "fountain," a reference to the many historic Ottoman fountains found throughout the area. The town enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot, sunny summers and mild, rainy winters, making it a popular destination for both Turkish and international visitors.

One of the most important landmarks in Çeşme is the Çeşme Castle, built by the Ottomans in the early 16th century to defend against pirate attacks and threats from Venice. The well-preserved castle overlooks the town and now houses the Çeşme Museum, where visitors can learn about local history and see artifacts from the ancient and Ottoman periods.

In front of the castle, a monument honors Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Pasha, a famous naval commander from the Battle of Çeşme in 1770.The history of Çeşme goes back to ancient times, with roots in the Ionian, Greek, and Roman civilizations. The nearby village of Ildırı contains the ruins of the ancient city of Erythrai, where visitors can explore temples, theaters, and houses overlooking the Aegean coast.

The town’s streets show traces of its multicultural past, with Ottoman houses and the 19th-century Greek Orthodox Church of Ayios Haralambos, now used for exhibitions.

Çeşme is also famous for its beaches and thermal springs, especially in Ilıca, known for its natural hot waters and fine sandy beach. Windsurfing is very popular here; the nearby town of Alaçatı hosts international windsurfing festivals and is famous for its shallow waters and constant winds.

Today, Çeşme is a lively tourist spot filled with boutique hotels, local markets, cafes, and restaurants. The old town features both traditional and modern architecture, making it a charming place to stroll, shop, and taste Aegean food. Annual cultural events and the relaxed seaside lifestyle draw visitors, especially during the summer months.
