Hoşap Kalesi, known as Hoşap Castle, sits on a steep cliff overlooking the Hoşap River in Gürpınar District near Van, Turkey, with foundations from an ancient Urartian stronghold and medieval Armenian fortress later rebuilt in 1649 by Kurdish Mahmudi tribe chief Sarı Süleyman Bey as a grand 17th-century stronghold under Ottoman suzerainty.

This "Castle of the East" features an upper keep with monumental iron gates, outer walls enclosing a former town, mosques, baths, dungeons, and up to 360 rooms in its planned layout, designed for defense along vital trade routes between Turkey and Iran.

Preserving basalt masonry and panoramic vistas, the well-maintained ruins stand as one of the world's few chateau-style fortresses, blending Seljuk, Kurdish, and Ottoman architectural layers amid eastern Anatolia's rugged terrain.
