Tokat Castle crowns a rocky hill overlooking the central Turkish city of Tokat, with roots tracing back thousands of years to Hittite and Persian times, though its prominent structure dates to Byzantine era around the 5th century as a Christian stronghold before Danishmend Gazi captured it in 1074, ushering in Seljuk and later Ottoman rule.

Renovated across centuries with 28 towers forming a formidable citadel, it served strategic defense roles and as a prison for notables, including Vlad the Impaler held briefly by Sultan Murad II in the early 15th century, earning the nickname Çardar-ı Bedevi or "Wild Arbor."

Currently under restoration to preserve its layered architecture and secret passages, the site draws visitors for panoramic views and ties to Dracula legend amid Tokat's rich Anatolian heritage.
