Chastè Steinsberg
Ardez, Scuol, Switzerland, Switzerland
Chastè Steinsberg, also known as Steinsberg Castle, is a ruined medieval fortress on a rocky hill above the village of Ardez in the municipality of Scuol, Graubünden canton, Switzerland.
First documented in 1209 after being sold to the Bishop of Chur, it served as a center for ecclesiastical estates and changed hands multiple times, including pledges to families like Planta and Scheck, before being burned by imperial troops during the Swabian War in 1499.
The site features a four-story keep with 14th-century window seats, remnants of a ring wall, and the nearby Romanesque Church of St. Luzius; restored in 1964 and 1985, it holds Swiss heritage site status and is reachable by a marked path for hikers.
