Château d’Yverdon-les-Bains
Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, Switzerland
Château d'Yverdon-les-Bains is a medieval fortress in the town of Yverdon-les-Bains, canton of Vaud, Switzerland, constructed around 1260 by Peter II, Count of Savoy, as one of the earliest "Savoyard square" castles featuring four corner towers and a central keep.
It served as a residence for Savoyard castellans until 1536, then Bernese bailiffs who added lavish 16th- and 18th-century decorations, later hosting educator Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi's institute in the early 19th century before becoming a school until 1974.
Now a Swiss heritage site of national significance, it houses the Musée d'Yverdon et région with exhibits on 10,000 years of local history, the Swiss Museum of Fashion, and cultural spaces like a library and theater.
