Château de Beauregard
Chippis, Switzerland, Switzerland
Château de Beauregard is a medieval castle ruin dramatically perched on a rocky outcrop above Chippis in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, constructed between the 12th and late 14th centuries as a residential fortress, surveillance post, and storage site by local nobility including the powerful Raron family.
Damaged in 1387 by Savoyard forces under Amadeus VII during reprisals against the Raron lords, it was further weakened by conflicts and abandoned by the 16th century, leaving behind walls, a round tower, and cistern remnants amid steep cliffs.
Recognized as a Swiss cultural property, the "impregnable" site offers hiking access with panoramic Rhone Valley views, symbolizing Valais' feudal defenses.
