Château de Grandson
Grandson, Switzerland, Switzerland
Château de Grandson is a medieval fortress overlooking Lake Neuchâtel in the Swiss municipality of Grandson, canton of Vaud, originally built in the late 11th century and rebuilt in the 13th century as one of Switzerland's best-preserved castles.
Controlled by the powerful Lords of Grandson who clashed with nearby monasteries, it passed to Savoyard hands before Swiss Confederation forces captured it in 1475 and executed the garrison during Charles the Bold's failed Burgundian Wars campaign in 1476.
A Swiss heritage site of national significance, the restored structure with its carré savoyard layout, towers, and Knights' Hall now houses museums on arms, armor, and history, drawing visitors to its ramparts and lake views.
