Château de la Soie
Savièse, Switzerland, Switzerland
Château de la Soie is a ruined medieval castle in Savièse, canton of Valais, Switzerland, built around 1200 by Bishop Landri de Mont of Sion to counter the influence of the Counts of Savoy in the region.
The fortress, perched on a hill with prehistoric and early medieval settlement layers beneath, was seized by Savoy in 1260 but later played a role in Upper Valais conflicts, including its siege in 1415 during the Raron affair, leading to its destruction.
Today, the archaeological site features remnants of walls and towers amid scenic alpine terrain, recognized as cultural heritage and accessible for hikes exploring Valais' feudal history.
