Château de l'Aile
Vevey, Switzerland, Switzerland
Château de l'Aile is a striking Neo-Gothic castle in Vevey, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, overlooking Lake Geneva, with origins tracing back to the 16th century on the site of ancient market halls and an inn.
The current structure was built between 1840 and 1846 by banker Jacques-Edouard Couvreu, replacing a 17th-century pleasure castle, and features richly ornamented molasse facades, sculpted decorations, painted ceilings, and marquetry floors inspired by English Gothic architecture, thanks to contributions from architects like Philippe Franel, Henri Perregaux, and Jacques-Louis Brocher.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, it served various private roles before becoming a squatted property, was sold in 2007 for luxury renovation into apartments and event spaces like weddings and seminars, and now offers boutique suites with stunning lake views in a meticulously restored setting.
