Château de Nyon
Nyon, Switzerland
Château de Nyon is a medieval fortress overlooking Lake Geneva in the town of Nyon, canton of Vaud, Switzerland, originally built in the mid-12th century as a fortified house by the Cossonay-Prangins family and significantly expanded by the Counts of Savoy after 1293 with added towers and courtyards.
Transformed between 1574 and 1583 under Bernese control into its current form with a grand square and administrative features, it served as a bailiff's seat, prison, and town hall before becoming a museum in 1888 showcasing 2,000 years of local history including Roman artifacts and Nyon porcelain from the 18th-century factory.
Renovated from 1999 to 2006 and classified as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, it hosts temporary exhibitions on art and photography amid panoramic lake views.
