Château de Romont
Romont, Switzerland, Switzerland
Château de Romont is a medieval fortress crowning the hilltop town of Romont in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland.
Built around 1240 by Peter II of Savoy, it features a classic Savoyard square layout with corner towers, a massive 40-meter donjon, and surrounding moats, serving as a refuge during attacks.
Partially collapsed in 1579 and rebuilt, it later housed Fribourg's bailiffs and now accommodates the Swiss Museum of Stained Glass (Vitromusée) since 1981, standing as a heritage site of national significance.
