Château de Tourbillon
Sion, Switzerland, Switzerland
Château de Tourbillon is a ruined medieval castle perched on a rocky hill above Sion in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, constructed in the late 13th century by Bishop Boniface de Challant as the bishops' primary residence.
Damaged in 1417 during the Raron revolt and rebuilt mid-15th century by Bishop William III of Raron, it was completely destroyed by fire in 1788, with its stones later reused locally before 19th-century stabilization efforts preserved the ruins.
The site features remnants of walls, a chapel with 14th- and 15th-century frescoes, and offers panoramic views, recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance managed by a dedicated foundation.
