Likely built in the 15th century as a fortified house, it passed through noble families like the Brosses and was burned by Genevan soldiers in 1590 before reconstruction around 1601-1603 into an elegant manor.
Acquired by Voltaire in 1758 under a lifetime lease, it became a hub for intellectual gatherings until he departed in 1760; today, it stands as a Swiss cultural property of national and regional significance after restorations between 2008 and 2011.
