Originally built by the lords of Oron and later passing to the Counts of Gruyère before Bernese acquisition in 1555, it served as a bailiff's residence until 1798, with major reconstructions in the late 15th and 17th centuries.
Acquired by preservation associations in 1936, this Swiss heritage site of national significance now features restored 18th-century apartments, a renowned library of 18,000 French novels from 1775-1825, and hosts public events like banquets and exhibitions.
