Château Schlossberg
La Neuveville, Switzerland, Switzerland
Château Schlossberg is a medieval castle ruin on the Jura Mountains slopes above La Neuveville in Switzerland's Canton of Bern, constructed from 1283 to 1288 by Prince-Bishops of Basel, starting under Henry von Isny and completed by Peter Reich von Reichenstein.
Built with a trapezoidal plan to defend territorial claims against the Counts of Neuchâtel, it features robust walls and towers at 534 meters elevation, later granted rights to its castellans after repelling a Bernese siege in 1368.
Now managed by a local foundation as a Swiss heritage site, the ruins offer scenic views over Lake Biel and the historic town walls, accessible via marked paths.
