Citadel of Homs
Homs, Syria, Syria
The Citadel of Homs is a mostly ruined historic fortress in Homs, Syria, built on an ancient tell southwest of the old city and linked to settlements dating back to the third millennium BCE.
It was later fortified in the Islamic period and used for military purposes for many centuries, but heavy demolition in the 19th and 20th centuries left it in a damaged state. Today it remains an important archaeological and cultural landmark in the city.
