Davos is a town in eastern Switzerland, located in the canton of Graubünden at about 1,560 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest towns in the Alps.

It is known both as a major winter‑sports and health‑resort destination, with large ski areas and many hiking and mountain‑biking trails in summer, and as the host of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting, where global political, business, and academic leaders gather each January.

Historically first mentioned in the 12th and 13th centuries, Davos grew into a fashionable health resort in the 19th century thanks to its high altitude, dry air, and abundant sunshine, and later evolved into a modern alpine resort with spas, conferences, and research institutions.

The town lies in the Davos Valley along the Landwasser River, enjoys a largely German‑speaking, Protestant population, and offers a mix of alpine scenery, outdoor activity, and international‑style conferences that shape its unique “Davos culture” image worldwide.
