Fort William Lighthouse, also known as Anomabo Fort, is a historic British-built fortification located in Anomabo, Ghana.

Originally constructed in 1753 after the British thwarted a French attempt to build a fort at the site, it served as both a defensive stronghold and a key center of trade during the transatlantic slave trade era. In 1820, the structure was rebuilt and renamed Fort William, functioning as a lookout post and lighthouse to guide ships along Ghana’s coast.

The fort features stone walls, battlements, and cannons, and the lighthouse itself is a square stone tower with a white exterior and red roof, standing about 20 meters tall with a range of roughly 10 nautical miles. Today, it operates as a museum managed by the Ghana Museums & Monuments Board, preserving the fort’s complex history marked by military defense, trade, and the slave trade. Visitors can explore the exhibits and enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, reflecting on the fort’s historical and cultural significance.
