Frohberg Castle
Aesch, Switzerland, Switzerland
Frohberg Castle ruins are located on a rocky ridge at the upper end of the Klus valley near Aesch in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland.
First mentioned in 1292 and likely built by the Schaler family in the second half of the 13th century, the castle dominated the Platten pass road but was probably damaged in the 1356 Basel earthquake and never fully repaired.
By the 14th century, the site was given as a bishop's fief to the counts of Thierstein-Pfeffingen, leaving scattered remnants of a main castle with thick walls up to 3 meters, a residential tower, and administrative buildings that remain unexcavated.
