Galle Face Green is a long, oceanfront promenade and urban park stretching about 500 meters along the Indian Ocean in the heart of Colombo, covering roughly 5 hectares of open grass between Galle Road and the sea.

It functions as Colombo’s main public gathering space, where locals and visitors stroll, fly kites, watch cricket games, and relax on the grass while enjoying sea breezes and sunset views. In the late afternoon and evening the area fills with street‑food vendors selling local favourites such as isso wade (prawn fritters) and kottu, making it a popular spot for a casual meal and entertainment.

The Green also hosts national events, ceremonies, and occasional concerts, and it sits beside historic colonial hotels and the central business district, giving it both cultural and scenic significance.
