Gümligen Castle
Muri bei Bern, Switzerland, Switzerland
Gümligen Castle is an 18th-century late Baroque manor house in the Gümligen area of Muri bei Bern, Switzerland, constructed between 1736 and 1739 by architect Albrecht Stürler for head postmaster Beat Fischer.
Financial difficulties led Fischer to sell it in 1742 to Samuel Tiller, who resold it in 1764 to Emanuel Karl Viktor Stürler, keeping it in the von Stürler family for over two centuries until 2000 when businessman Willy Michel purchased and restored it.
During World War II from 1939 to 1941, it served as the headquarters and residence for Swiss General Henri Guisan, and today it remains a privately owned Swiss heritage site of national significance amid maintained gardens.
