The Harbin Ice and Snow Festival in Harbin, Heilongjiang, is one of the most dazzling winter spectacles on Earth. Held annually from late December to late February, it transforms this northeastern Chinese city into a frozen wonderland of towering ice castles, glowing sculptures, and snow-carved marvels.

The centerpiece is Harbin Ice and Snow World, a sprawling park filled with illuminated ice architecture—think palaces, pagodas, and even full-scale replicas of world landmarks, all carved from blocks of ice harvested from the nearby Songhua River2. Complementing it is Sun Island, home to massive snow sculptures crafted by international artists, and Zhaolin Park, where whimsical ice lanterns and smaller sculptures create a more intimate, fairy-tale vibe.

The 2025 edition officially opened on January 5 and is expected to run through late February, weather permitting. This year, the festival has expanded into summer too, with indoor snow zones and even artificial snowfall experiences, making it a year-round attraction.
