Kalkudah is a coastal resort town in Sri Lanka's Batticaloa District, Eastern Province, located about 35 km northwest of Batticaloa along a stunning stretch of golden beach adjacent to Pasikudah.
Once a popular 1970s tourist spot with calm turquoise waters protected by an offshore reef ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and surfing, it suffered severe damage from the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and Sri Lankan civil war, leading to declined visitors and abandoned infrastructure.
Post-conflict reconstruction has revived tourism with new resorts, though it remains relatively pristine and uncrowded compared to southern beaches, featuring endless sands, palm trees, local fishing communities, and serene vibes best visited May to September.
