Kastelen Tower Ruins
Alberswil, Switzerland, Switzerland
Kastelen Tower Ruins are the remnants of a medieval hill castle located in the municipality of Alberswil in Switzerland's canton of Lucerne.
Constructed around 1252, likely by the Kyburg family or their ministerials such as the Lords of Schönenberg who served the Bishop of Constance, the 21-meter-high stone tower served as a strategic residence and defensive outpost overlooking the surrounding landscape.
Designated a Swiss heritage site of national significance within the Cultural Landscape Kastelen, the ruins feature a climbable tower offering panoramic alpine views, prehistoric settlement traces from 3000 BC, and renovated paths with picnic areas for hikers, having survived the Sempach War but decayed after the 1653 Peasants' War.
