Kilitbahir Castle, known as the "Lock of the Sea," stands on the European side of the Dardanelles Strait in Çanakkale Province, Turkey, built in 1462 by Sultan Mehmed II opposite the Sultaniye Castle to control maritime passage.
Its unique cloverleaf design with thick walls, a central triangular tower, and outer fortifications was expanded in 1541 by Suleiman the Magnificent, featuring a prominent Yellow Tower for defense.
Now a museum showcasing Ottoman life through exhibits on architecture, weapons, and daily routines, it offers panoramic strait views and played key roles in sieges like Gallipoli, blending strategic history with restored accessibility.
