Kulturhof Schloss Köniz
Köniz, Switzerland
Kulturhof Schloss Köniz is a historic castle complex in the municipality of Köniz near Bern, Switzerland, originally founded in the 11th century as a monastery and church for Augustinian Canons.
Transferred to the Teutonic Knights in 1226, it served as their commandery for centuries, functioning as a religious, administrative, and economic center until Bern acquired it in 1729, later using it for district governance, schools, and homes.
Renovated multiple times, including in 1785-87, the site now operates as the Kulturhof, a cultural hub with an art gallery, music school, restaurant, and event spaces in its preserved buildings like the commandery church and stables, recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance.
