The Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga is the largest and most important art museum in Latvia, housing an extensive collection that showcases the development of Latvian visual art from the 18th century to the present day. Established in 1869, it preserves more than 100,000 works of art and cultural objects, making it one of the country’s leading cultural institutions. The museum is housed in a striking historic building designed by Wilhelm Neumann and constructed between 1903 and 1905. Widely regarded as one of Riga’s architectural landmarks, it combines historic elegance with modern exhibition spaces following a major renovation completed in 2016. Visitors can explore permanent displays of Latvian painting, sculpture, and graphic art, as well as temporary international exhibitions. The museum plays a key role in preserving and promoting Latvia’s artistic heritage and is considered an essential destination for anyone interested in the country’s culture and history.
