L'Isle Castle
l'Isle, Switzerland, Switzerland
L'Isle Castle is a magnificent 17th-century classical-style château in the village of L'Isle, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, constructed in 1696 by Charles de Chandieu, a lieutenant general in the Swiss Guards of Louis XIV, under the direction of architect Antoine Favre and inspired by designs from Hardouin Mansart, nephew of the famed Versailles architect.
Featuring a U-shaped layout with a grand main building flanked by wings, formal French gardens, and elegant facades reminiscent of Versailles earning it the nickname "Little Versailles", it passed through various noble families before being acquired by the commune in 1876 and repurposed as a town hall and school.
Recognized as a cultural property of national significance, the privately owned residence reflects French classical grandeur amid the Jura foothills near the Venoge River source, though it is not open to the public.
