Löwenberg Castle
Switzerland, Switzerland
Löwenberg Castle, also known as Château de la Motte, is a historic castle in the municipality of Murten (Morat) in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland.
Built in the 15th or 16th century as a wine-growing estate, it evolved over four centuries through various expansions, passing through noble families like the Velga, Diesbach, and de Rougemont, who transformed it from a simple farmhouse into an elegant country manor with baroque and neoclassical elements.
Classified as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, it features a landscaped park, linden avenue, and military fortifications from the world wars, now partly used as a training center by Swiss Federal Railways.
