Marschlins Castle
Switzerland, Switzerland
Marschlins Castle is a 13th-century water castle in Igis, Landquart municipality, Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, built in unique Savoyard style with a square layout, corner towers, and a prominent donjon for the Bishop of Chur.
It changed hands among nobles like the Montforts, Austrians, Toggenburgs, and Brandis family amid quarrels and fires, before Ulysses von Salis transformed it in the 17th century into an elegant residence with French gardens, later serving as a school, factories, and army camp.
Today, this Swiss heritage site of national significance remains privately owned, featuring ornate 17th-century interiors like carved paneling and coffered ceilings, surrounded by former moats.
