Meggenhorn
Meggen, Switzerland, Switzerland
Meggenhorn Castle is a striking 19th-century neo-Gothic residence perched on a hillside promontory in Meggen near Lucerne, Switzerland, overlooking Lake Lucerne with panoramic views of the Alps.
Built between 1868 and 1870 by industrialist Edouard Hofer-Grosjean from Mulhouse, inspired by France's Château de Chambord, it features a neo-Gothic chapel added in 1886 by later owner Countess Amélie Heine-Kohn and was equipped with a rare Welte Philharmonic Organ in 1926.
Acquired by Meggen municipality in 1974, the castle and its extensive gardens now serve as a public park with playgrounds, farm animals, picnic spots, and guided interior tours on Sundays, functioning as a symbol of the town and popular venue for events amid its vineyards.
