Mole National Park, located near Larabanga in Ghana’s Northern Region, is the country’s largest and most renowned wildlife refuge, covering about 4,840 square kilometers of Guinea savannah. Established initially as a wildlife refuge in 1958 and designated a national park in 1971, it features diverse landscapes with rolling plains, rocky outcrops, and gallery forests along rivers, creating habitats for a rich variety of wildlife.

The park is home to over 90 mammal species including elephants, buffalo, leopards, and various antelopes, as well as nearly 300 bird species, making it a premier destination for safari and birdwatching. Visitors can experience game drives and guided walking safaris, especially to view animals around the park’s waterholes during the dry season. Mole is also significant for its ecological research and community-based conservation programs, with tour facilities including safari lodges and camps.

Despite challenges from poaching and funding, the park remains a vital conservation area and a highlight for nature lovers exploring West Africa.
