Mount Kadifekale, known as the Velvet Castle, rises 186 meters on Mount Pagos in İzmir's Konak district, Turkey, offering sweeping views of the city and Gulf of İzmir.
Built in the 3rd century BC by Lysimachos, a general of Alexander the Great, during Smyrna's refounding, its medieval walls enclose Byzantine cisterns, ruins of an Ottoman mosque, and traces of Hellenistic fortifications from layered eras including Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman occupations.
