Namrun Castle
Çamlıyayla, Türkiye, Turkey
Namrun Castle, also known as Lampron, is a medieval fortress near Çamlıyayla in Mersin Province, southern Turkey, built on a Byzantine site in the 11th century by the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia as the ancestral seat of the Hethumid princes.
Perched on a limestone outcrop in the Taurus Mountains guarding passes to Tarsus and the Cilician Gates, it features a lower ward, massive upper ward with rock-cut access, vaulted chambers, casemates, ashlar masonry, and a medieval bathhouse below.
Site of revolts like Baron Constantine's 1240s uprising against King Het'um I and later Mamluk occupation, it reflects layered Roman, Byzantine, Armenian, and Crusader history amid panoramic views.
