Neu-Süns Castle
Domleschg, Switzerland, Switzerland
Neu-Süns Castle is a ruined medieval fortress in the municipality of Domleschg in Switzerland's Viamala Region, Graubünden canton, constructed between 1250 and 1300 by the powerful Vaz family to extend control from nearby Alt-Süns Castle.
First referenced in 1337 as "nüwer Sünnes" and also known as Canova (Romansh for "new house"), it passed to the Counts of Werdenberg-Sargans after the Vaz line ended in 1338, later owned by Anna von Rhäzüns and mentioned in 1437 treaties.
Damaged in 1451 during valley conflicts when its southern tower wall was collapsed, it fell into ruin without rebuild permission and now features a five-story round donjon with 1.5-meter-thick walls, a ring wall, and outer bailey remnants as a Swiss heritage site.
