Neues Schloss Buonas
Risch, Switzerland
Neues Schloss Buonas was a neo-Gothic villa built between 1873 and 1877 on the Buonas peninsula in Risch, canton of Zug, Switzerland, designed by English architect William Wilkinson for industrialist Carl August von Gonzenbach-Escher as a grand residence amid the park of the medieval Schloss Buonas.
This ornate structure, one of Switzerland's key profane neo-Gothic works, featured lavish interiors and landscaped grounds but was controversially demolished in 1970 by its owner due to high maintenance costs and outdated comfort, despite protests from heritage experts.
Today, its site is part of Hoffmann-La Roche's training center alongside the preserved original castle, marking a significant loss to Swiss architectural heritage.
