Nuwara Eliya is a picturesque city located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, known as the "city on the plain" or "Little England" due to its cool temperate climate and colonial charm. Situated at about 1,868 meters (6,128 feet) above sea level and near Sri Lanka’s tallest mountain, Pidurutalagala, it is the highest town on the island and famous for its lush tea plantations, beautiful gardens, and scenic landscapes.

Founded during British colonial times, the city served as a retreat for British officials, who enjoyed activities like golf, horse racing, and hunting, and many buildings still reflect this colonial heritage. Nuwara Eliya’s temperate climate supports the cultivation of European fruits, vegetables, and the world-renowned Ceylon tea, making the area an important center of Sri Lanka’s tea industry.
