Obertagstein Castle
Switzerland, Switzerland
Obertagstein Castle is a compact medieval hill castle ruin perched on a small rock outcropping south of Thusis in Graubünden canton, Switzerland, measuring about 15 by 15 meters with remnants of its ring wall intact.
First mentioned in 1322 as "Taxstein," it was built around 1300 by the Masein/Rialt family to serve as a defensive stronghold, changing hands multiple times before a 15th-century fire led to its abandonment. Protected as a class B Swiss cultural property, the site offers hikers impressive views and insights into alpine fortification architecture near other historic landmarks.
